Continuing A Legacy In Raising Awareness About Healthcare Issues Impacting The African-American Community

Washington, DC (June 7, 2017) – The 100 Black Men of Greater Washington, DC (100BMGWDC) is proud to announce their 8th Annual Tommie Smith Youth Track Meet and Health Fair hosted by 1968 gold medal Olympian Tommie Smith. This U.S. Track and Field sanctioned event will be combined with a health fair which will provide free screenings to all participants as well as attendees.

SLA Mentee, Joshua Burnell Receives Full Scholarship to Attend North Carolina A&T Univ.

Joshua Burnell is senior at the Academy of Science (AOS) and Stone Bridge High School in Loudoun County, VA.  At AOS he chairs the engineer division of the robotics team.  At Stone Bridge, he is the President of the debate team and chairs the Lincoln Douglas division. Joshua is a member of the Math, Science, and Latin Honor Societies, as well as the National Honor Society and National Society of High School Scholars.

The Made Man – Honoring Incredible Black Men while Making a Difference

100 Black Men of Greater Washington DC and Made Men came together to host an amazing event in Washington DC during the 2016 Congressional Black Caucus’s Annual Legislative Conference.  The event honored over 60 Black male leaders, influencers, and change agents doing incredible things.  The event, held at Bobby Van’s Grill, honored gentlemen such as our president 100 Black Men of Greater Washington DC, Ivory Johnson, former DC mayor Vincent Grey, Marc Morial, president of National Urban League, Thabiti Boone, president Obama White House Fatherhood Champion, Michell Doyle, president of Black-owned Industrial Bank, Curley Dossman, chairman of the board for 100 Black Men of America,

Strengthening the Relationship Between the Police and Our Community

The 100 Black Men of Greater Washington, D.C. (The 100) is hosting a panel discussion which will focus on promoting stronger relationships and understanding between the police and the African-American community. Our panelists, consisting of seasoned law professionals and community stakeholders, will take questions from the audience on subjects including, but not limited to, the following:


  • Successful and unsuccessful strategies for citizen – police officer interaction;
  • What happens after an arrest;
  • What happens before, during, and after an encounter with the criminal justice system;
  • What policies are and should be implemented to improve police – community relations;

2016 Technology Chair Brian AM Williams is FedEx National Small Business Finalist

100 Black Men of greater Washington DC’s technology chairman, Brian AM Williams has been selected as one of one hundred national finalists in the Fed Ex Small Business Grant Competition for 2016.  Brian’s business, PurchaseBlack.com, is a shopping mobile application and website selling products from carefully curated, high quality Black owned businesses.  Fed Ex is offering 10 of those 100 national finalists cash grants to help jump start growth for those businesses.  The top prize is $25,000, followed by second prize of $15,000, and finally 8 prizes of $7,500 each.
